Hello and Happy New Year.
It's nice to wind down after the crazy holiday season. There's
nothing like being in the middle of Wal-Mart on the day before
Christmas. It's more hectic than a Wednesday night starting line.
January is one of my favorite months. I enjoy the fact knowing
it's a New Year and a fresh start.
Speaking of fresh starts... OYC and LNYC have joined together
for spring series competition. More to come later. Butch Berchem
was nominated and has accepted the position of Fleet Captain.
Butch brings many years experience in racing and cruising and
will be of great support to V.C. Andrew Howell.
We are looking for a reliable pontoon boat to buy for a committee
boat. If anyone has any leads or wants to donate one to a worthy
cause please call Andrew Howell 704-483-7838 We plan on making
a decision next board meeting.
Upcoming events include the famous
OYC chili cook-off Jan 26.
The Mid-Atlantic Boat Show at the Charlotte Convention Center
Feb 6-10. Select Yachts and The Lake Norman Sailing Academy will
have booths and will be posting OYC membership sign-up sheets.
Anyone interested in hanging out and talking to prospective members
give me a call and I'll sign you up.
Finally Lake Norman Yacht Club will be hosting a Racing Rules
Seminar on Saturday Feb 16th & 23rd. This is open to anyone who
wishes to attend. If you want to know more about the rules of
sailboat racing and how to run a race or regatta this is the place
to be. There are still a few details to be hammered out so call
me if you are interested. 704-361-6467
Want to get involved? The next Board meeting will be Sunday February
17th 9:30 am at Select Yachts 1598 N. Hwy 16 Denver NC. 704-483-6656
I look forward to sharing times on and off the water and wish
you all a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
Commodore, John Ogden

windward leeward courses. Non-spin boats are going around Lake

in coordinating the committee boat and the executing of the races.
Committee boat administration instructions will be on web site
for download along with the lake wide sailing instructions. Please
everyone take the time and print a copy.
I'd like to thank Rick Rowan for his help in planning and preparing

Chili Cook-Off
Mark your calendars now for January 26th at 5;30 p.m. and bring
your favorite recipe of homemade chili. We have reserved the clubhouse
at mariner Villas.
The Cook-Off will be our first social event of the New year and
follows the first race in the Icicle Series. The Cook-Off is open
to all of our members and any guests you would like to bring.
We will have some special prizes for the tastiest batch! If I
like your chili, I promise not to beg too much for your secret
family recipe. If you're not skilled in preparing chili or simply
don't have time to make any, please join us anyway and enjoy what
the other folks bring. If you don't bring any chili, we ask that
you contribute $5.00 per person. Drinks will be provided by Outrigger.
This is my first Chili Cook-Off with Outrigger and I hope to see
you there. Please remember...bring your own Bean-O!
Rear Commodore, Rick Jarrett
Important Changes to Membership Fees
Joining Outrigger Yacht Club has long been a great value. OYC
has not had a membership fee increase in many years. Recently
it was voted that the following membership categories will be
increased. This increase will help fund the much needed replacement
of the OYC committee boat.
New Member
$115 per year
Renewing Full Membership
$95 per year...This fee structure gives you racing privileges.
Renewing Associate
$40 per year...This fee structure gives you crewing privileges.
Please note that to be a member in good standing we must have
your application or renewal form mailed with appropriate fee before
February 28. If you have recently paid at the 2001 membership
rate, you will need to pay the additional increase to be a member
in good standing. To participate in the first OYC sponsored race
of this year we must have your application form and membership
fee.
Members who are paid up will continue to be included in the membership
roster, will have their races scored, and will receive e-mail
correspondence regarding upcoming OYC events. OYC appreciates
your understanding and attention in this matter.
Odds and Ends
If you have photos of OYC race events or other race photos that
may be of interest please consider sharing them with the club
by posting them on the club web site. E-mail digital files to
mck@iocnet.net along with photo credit. Thanks!
If you would like to contribute an article or sailing experience
please e-mail submission to the above e-mail address by the 15th
of each month.
Reminder:
The OYC website has a discussion board that is a potentially great
way to communicate with other sailing enthusiasts. Consider it
a way to build a knowledge base for the sport and for a bulletin
board to sell/buy a used boat or various sailing equipment. Check
it out: http://www.outriggeryachtclub.org/discussion/menu.htm |
